There are several other important news events this week, which Richard pointed out – home sails on Monday, Durable Goods and German IFO on Wednesday. And also UK GDP on Thursday!

US Home sails were the biggest shaker for today. They came better than expected and this helps the stock indexes to gain power again in their way up. The next big announcement will be the New Zealand Interest Rate which will come in less than 5 hours. If there is a change in the rate (2.5% actually) we cold see some potential trades ahead in the NZD/USD pair.

Tomorrow the most important news will be US Durable Goods and Australian Consumer Price Index! Watch them to capture the biggest movements.

I think the weekly/monthly data won't be that big a deal this week. We are expecting things to be slow, we've been in a small slump for weeks, as long as things are too bad the market should shake it off. The more important items will be the longer term outlooks, projections and guidance for the second/third quarter. Caterpillar's CEO made a nice statement on Monday about a possible bottom in the business/economy.

Apple earnings may be more important than many people think. Apple was the market leader, right before the stock reversed. If investor sentiment improves and buyers come into Apple it could be big lift to the markets in general. I'm not saying that Apple will become the market leader again but I am saying that if the previous market leader that has been getting slammed suddenly regains some favor it could help the major indexes gain.

Coke is another good one. this is a global company and a great look into world trends.
