Newbie - Trying to figure out if Binary Option Trading is Gambling !!!

Hello, I am in the US and have been researching Binary Option trading for about 4 weeks now. I came across a video that basically says Binary Option Trading is gambling. I was wondering if anyone else had come across this, and what they thought about it. Any opinions welcome! thanks ^^.

Binary Options are gambling the same way as all other trading styles are gambling including long term investment, where you also could not predict the future with certainty This video is very negatively biased and shows only the one side of the game. Yes you could become addicted to binary options, but you could so to forex trading, to stock trading, even to buy and hold investing. It is risky – yes, but not more risky than other style of trading. It depends only on your risk taking desire. It is new and that’s why ordinary people take it as a pure gambling, but experienced traders could say that it also could be a profitable business. It all depend on the way you look at it.

Any type of financial trade can be considered a gamble.

It is usually more information on technicals (how the charts behave) and fundamentals (the news moving the price) that changes trading from a gamble to a profession. But it still has the element of risk.

all investments have risk and all can be approached in the style of gambling. Binaries are a great way to speculate the market and have much less operational risk than equity options, forex or futures. Equity options have a lot of dead weight to drag and with forex or futures it is possible to loss your ass real quick like if the market moves against you. Check out this article I found on the web describing the difference between binary and equity options. It really lays out all the headwinds of trading equity options, headwinds that make the market makers and brokers tons of profits and lands most retail traders in the poorhouse.

The big risk in binary options is choosing a poor broker. always always always research the broker before you deposit and also make sure you have met all the requirements of the account before depositing the money.

I checked the Forbs paper and I have to say, firstly it is too old (2010) and in the last three years there is a substantial progress in the binary industry as a whole. Yes there exists a lot of crappie brokers but also several ones which have extremely good reputation and could be trusted and finally every big reward business has bigger risks involved and that didn’t make it a gambling!

It seems some guys from the old fashion brokerage industry don’t like that there is something new out there which could be traded easier than their old instruments. The assumption that the markets are totally random and there is no such thing as a trader edge is absolutely false. There are a lot of success stories that shows us that there is a trading edge and if you work hard and are persistent in your efforts to learn you will eventually master that edge and will profit from the markets as others do. The statement that 95% of the traders lose their money is true only for inexperienced newbie that lose their money and never came back to master themselves. That’s it! If you invest the time and efforts it will pays you off multiple times. Also the broker edge which this video claim that is 5% is not bigger at all than the broker’s edge in vanillas, which are officially traded not only by retail traders, but also from banks, professionals and commercials, which don’t trade for gambling. The thing that binary options are new doesn’t prove them immediately they are fishy or scrappy instruments. I couldn’t agree with this statement at all!
