    Meta Trader 4 Q&A !!!

This thread is intended to help those of you who want to use MT4 but have some difficulties. Lately there are a lot of questions related to this tool which is in my opinion the best charting package available to date although it has some limitations.

If you have questions I will try to answer them, but please explain to me in a clear way what you want to know.

Here's an article you should read if you are interested in using MT4.
Do not ask me any question that is already answered in the article.

    Hi Bogdan

I am using Metatrader too for several years and trading binary options since last year, but I still have some questions and problems not answered till now. I would like to know how to start learning Metatrader back tests and how to find good history data. I know that it should be imported into Metatrader terminal, but how and from where I should download that history file. I will appreciate very much your help Bogdan.

    Regards,
    Nik

The initiation of MetaTrader into the binary options market is long overdue and will enable more traders to conduct advanced technical analysis before taking new trades. I see this going far to change the overall reputation of binary options as a "gambler's market" because up until now most of the binary options trading platforms are much closer to a slot machine than a professional trading station. By this I mean that the older platforms really only allow you to place trade orders, not plot indicator studies or even offer a news feed as part of the package. MetraTrader can do all of this, so if the software starts to become more popular with options traders (and I believe it will) binary options can start to be viewed as a more legitimate trading practice.

    Very interesting videos, Richard. Thanks.
I always used MT4 and the data it provided; I never downloaded from other sources but that's a good option.

    Hi Nick,
Very soon one of my articles will be posted on our website, explaining in detail how to backtest your strategy using MT4 and how to simulate a real-time market environment. Maybe "simulate" is not the best word because the data used is exactly the real (past) one. The article is pretty long and detailed so I am sure you understand why I will not reproduce it here.
In the mean time, I think you will find this explanation helpful:

One more thing: when you start the Strategy Tester, MT4 will download data automatically, you dont have to use third party providers and import it. Or at least, I never did that.
